7. Egg Retrieval Time!

Eggs, eggs, eggs...On an early Friday morning, Marc and I headed down the street to the ambulatory care center for my egg retrieval.  My parents met us there to lend emotional support to Marc in the waiting room and more importantly because “their little girl” was having surgery, minor as it was.

We sat together full of nerves and excitement.  The nurse called Marc to give his “sample.”  It was time for him to do his part.  He came back a few minutes later, red and embarrassed.  I mean how often do men “produce” under pressure with your in-laws just outside?

They called my name and I kissed my parents before Marc and I headed back.  I put on my hospital gown, tushie waving in the wind, the no-slip socks, and my net hat.  My doctor came back to get me and I kissed Marc goodbye.

When I got into the operating room I felt nervous but excited.  Was this the moment that was going to change my life?  The anesthesiologist came in the room and just as he was placing the “joy juice” into my arm I quickly remembered to say the “Shehechianu” prayer, thanking G-d for bringing me to this day.  Amen…and then I was out cold.

I woke up, what felt like minutes later to be told everything went well.  7 eggs, all mature were taken and sent off to be fertilized.  We quickly named them the “Maybe Babies” and began our praying.
