10. Round Two!

Wishin and thinkin and hopin and prayin

After a couple of weeks, Marc and I were ready to get back on the IVF bandwagon. We met with our Dr. who truly believed this was still a very viable option for me and was as positive as ever.  We decided to change my protocol, adding in more medications and the addition of estrogen patches leading up to my IVF cycle along with another medication, to shut my reproductive system down and then wake it up with the medication.  The plan was that this would yield more eggs, more chances for a healthy embryo.

Marc and I were off to Florida for my best friend’s wedding and some R&R with our medication and ice packs in hand.  We were up against the clock as our lab was closing the following month (as all fertility clinics due for a cleaning).  If I didn’t get my period by a certain day, I would have to wait a full month.  Come on period, come on!

In true sitcom fashion, Aunt Flo arrived with a day to spare.  I was cleared to begin my injections in Florida.  Looking back, I wonder if the extra hormones contributed to the extra tears I cried throughout the wedding ceremony.  Nah.  Who am I kidding? My best friend was getting married! Drugs or no drugs I was “kvelling!”

Once back in NJ, the daily monitoring appointments commenced.  Ultrasound and blood work.  Rinse and repeat.  There were definitely more follicles than the previous round and all parties felt this was a good sign. Phew.

Retrieval day came and the same crew sat in the waiting room as they did before.  The joy juice flowed and I looked forward to my special nap.  Gotta find the positive where you can, right?

I woke up to find they took out 12 eggs! A full dozen! I kept picturing the carton of Eggland’s Best like I had in my fridge at home.  That was almost double the previous round.  This was amazing news!
